The Digestive System
How Do Certain Organs Aid in Digestion?
Liver: The liver aids in digestion by producing bile that helps to absorb fats into the bloodstream. Gallbladder: The gallbladder aids in digestion by storing the bile that is produced by the liver until it is needed to digest the food. Pancreas: The pancreas aids in digestion by producing enzymes that help to break down food and releases them into the body system through endocrine functions. Other Functions of the Liver: The liver also detoxifies chemicals and metabolizes drugs. Not only that, but it creates proteins important for blood clotting and other functions. The liver has many important functions in the body which is why can become very problematic when you have liver damage that can be caused from the hepatitis virus or excessive use of alcohol. |
