This week I observed the same exact thing that I have been observing for the past few weeks. I have learned that this job is very repetitive and I have seen just about everything that there is to see at an orthodontist's office. The only thing I do at the office is observe Dr. Ross and the patients and I can honestly say that it is very boring. It was exciting at first, but after seeing the same thing over and over and over again, it has become repetitive and dull.
The company makes their money off of the patients paying for their treatment and they rely on the patients to pay so that their company gets money to pay their employees and pay for other things to improve their business. The office accepts all different types of dental insurance, but some types of insurance will not pay for treatment because they consider it to be a cosmetic expense.
This company is for profit because they use their profit to pay their employees and put the money back into the company to better it and increase their profit even more. It is not a non profit because if it were, they would use their profit for public benefit which they do not. They use their profit for themselves instead of others making it a for profit organization.
The current healthcare does not have much of an affect on the business because it is a dental business. Unlike most medical practices, dental is a completely different branch on medical. They have their own insurance and most dental work is considered cosmetic and not medical. This causes the current healthcare system to not really have much of an affect on them. Sometimes orthodontics is used for health purposes, but a lot of insurance companies do not see it like that so they still charge them full price because they think it is cosmetic. Instead of health care orthodontics can be seen more like as getting your nails done at a nail salon. They are considered health care, but are for the most part are cosmetic. This means that if I decided to go into the field, I would not have to worry too much about changes because many people are going to continue wanting straight teeth and the change in health care will not have much of an affect on this occupation.
